Kinship Care Midlothian

We’re proud to support Kinship Care Midlothian SCIO £4,000 grant from the Scottish Children’s Lottery, helping ease a financial burden that hits kinship families hardest just when they need support the most.

Kinship carers are incredible people; grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, even close family friends, who step up to care for children when their parents can’t. These carers give love, stability, and a safe home, often in incredibly difficult circumstances. But many face isolation and poverty, especially during the festive season and into the New Year.

That’s why Kinship Care Midlothian used this grant to support families during a difficult period: early January, when carers go weeks without any income after December’s advance allowances and pensions. This gap leads many to take on debt just to afford essentials when schools reopen, a pressure no carer or child should face.

With this funding, Kinship Care Midlothian directly supported families, helping prevent debt, reduce stress, and made sure children returned to school with the things they needed and enabled a positive start to the year.

This is exactly what the Scottish Children’s Lottery was created for, supporting grassroots charities who know their communities best and are making a difference where it truly matters.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who plays the Scottish Children’s Lottery, it’s because of you that this support is possible.
